The part nobody warns you about
Most dental care comes apart at one word: referral.
The exam is quick. What follows is the problem. The root canal is somebody else, three weeks out. The gum work is somebody else again, in another town, who has never seen your chart. The wisdom tooth is a third practice with its own forms and its own x-rays. Every handoff costs a fortnight, and a treatment plan that made sense in one chair gets rewritten in the next.

That is the whole model: one chart, one front desk, one building, and a specialist who can walk down the corridor and look at the tooth while you are still in the chair.

Complex cases still get a second opinion, and occasionally a root canal is passed to an endodontist. The difference is that here it is the exception, not the process.
Straightening, same roof
The same thinking is why the aligners are planned here too.
Invisalign has designated Dental Associates of Connecticut a Diamond Plus Provider, and the practice has been an Invisalign Top 1% National Provider every year since 2007. We are the largest Invisalign provider in Connecticut and one of the largest in the United States. What starts it is an iTero digital impression scan taken in the chair, which removes the tray of impression material completely.
The everyday half
And it is the same four buildings for the ordinary things.
Most visits are not complex. They are a cleaning, a filling, a sealant on a new molar, a child being shown how to floss for the first time. Our general dentistry program goes well beyond routine cleanings and cavity prevention, and we would far rather you asked questions than nodded.
Exams and cleaning
Check-ups every 3, 4 or 6 months depending on what your mouth needs, with x-rays and interpretation, oral cancer screening and blood pressure screening in the same visit.
Fillings and restorative
Natural tooth-coloured fillings. The decayed portion comes out, the cavity is filled, and the tooth still looks like a tooth.
Fluoride and sealants
Sealants have been an effective treatment against decay since 1967. Checked regularly, they last up to 10 years before they need doing again.
Cosmetic, whitening and veneers
Whitening, veneers, crowns and bonding for chipped and stained teeth. We are a certified GLO Science dental practice.
Children's dentistry
Two to three years of training beyond dental school, focused on growth and development, child psychology, pediatric medicine and dental trauma.
Sedation dentistry
For patients who have avoided the chair for years. Nitrous oxide through to IV sedation, monitored continuously during and after.

Before you call
The five questions the front desk hears most.
- Do I have to go somewhere else for a root canal, an implant or gum treatment?
- In almost every case, no. All of our general dentists are trained in root canal treatment and most teeth are treated in the office. A periodontist is available at all four locations and there is an oral surgeon in all four as well, so your own dentist can arrange consultation and co-treatment with an in-house specialist rather than sending you across the county.
- Can I be seen outside working hours?
- The offices run 8am to 8pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 5pm Friday and Saturday, and there are evening and Saturday appointments for gum treatment specifically. Same-day emergency appointments are offered during regular business hours whenever possible.
- I am genuinely frightened of the dentist. What are the options?
- Sedation dentistry, at several levels. For oral surgery that ranges from nitrous oxide to IV sedation, with continuous monitoring during and after the procedure. Patients who avoided care for years because of fear are the reason it is offered.
- How young can a child start?
- Early. Our pediatric dentists have two or more years of advanced training beyond dental school, treat infants through adolescents, and are set up for children with disabilities and other special needs, with accessible treatment areas in every office and sedation available if it is needed. Lip-tie and tongue-tie, which affects an estimated 4% to 10% of infants, is corrected with a LightScalpel laser at the Newtown and New Milford offices, and the infant can breastfeed immediately afterwards.
