Aligner work is a numbers game long before it is an art.
Clear aligners move teeth by a series of small, planned steps, and the plan is only as good as the number of similar mouths the person drawing it has already finished. Dr. Gilman was certified by Invisalign in 2001 and has been recognised by the Invisalign Corporation as one of the top 100 doctors in the country using Invisalign, designated Elite and Diamond Plus every year since 2007. That experience with complicated cases is what made this practice one of the largest providers of Invisalign in the United States.

Visit one, about an hour
The scan, not the tray
An iTero digital impression scan is taken in the chair. It eliminates the need for time-consuming and messy traditional dental impressions, and it models the bite faster and more accurately, which is where the result actually comes from.

Before anything is made
The plan is drawn against the whole mouth
This is the part that is different here. The orthodontist is in the same building as your general dentist, the periodontist and the oral surgeon, so a crowded arch that needs an extraction first, or gums that need treating before anything moves, gets settled in one conversation rather than three appointments in three towns.

Weekly, at home
Aligners change on a seven day cycle
A series of personalized aligners in a clear material, each one worn for a week, placing light gentle pressure. They come out to eat, so nothing is off the menu, and they come out to brush and floss normally.

Monthly, if you chose braces
Elastics changed, colours picked
Colourful elastic rings on metal braces are changed once a month. Children often pick their school colours, or match the season. It is a small thing and it is the reason a nine year old stops dreading the appointment.

At the finish
The bite, not just the front six
Correcting the position of the teeth reduces the chance of gum disease, lowers the stress a misaligned bite puts on the jaw, and stops the excessive or uneven wear that shows up years later on the molars nobody photographs.

Has practiced orthodontia in the Danbury office since 1992, with dental and orthodontic training completed at Columbia University. Member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontics and the North East Society of Orthodontics, and he speaks at community health and charity events.
- How much does the consultation cost?
- Nothing. The orthodontic consultation is free, and it includes the iTero digital scan rather than a tray of impression material.
- How young is too young for Invisalign?
- Dr. Gilman uses Invisalign not only for adults but for teens and children as early as age 7, planned together with our pediatric dentists so the timing fits the child's growth rather than the calendar.
- Are metal braces still worth considering?
- For many patients of all ages, yes. Brackets are smaller and more comfortable than they were, treatment times have come down, and there are tooth-coloured ceramic brackets and lingual braces placed behind the teeth if the look is the concern. We also make customized 3D printed fixed braces.
- Can I get this at my usual office?
- Invisalign is offered at all of our offices. Dr. Gilman practices in Newtown and New Milford, Dr. Gund in Danbury, and a team of specially trained general dentists provides Invisalign at every location.
